Terms of Use
Version 1 · Last updated October 1, 2026
1. Welcome and acceptance
1.1. Welcome to Shadow Study. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) set the rules for using the Shadow Study platform, available at shadow.study (the “Platform”), and form the agreement between you and Shadow Study. Throughout these Terms, “we” refers to Shadow Study, and “you” to the person who uses the Platform.
1.2. You accept these Terms by ticking, when you create or activate your account, the checkbox for the statement “I have read and agree to the Terms of Use and have read the Privacy Notice”. If your account was created before these Terms were published, you will be asked to accept them the next time you sign in.
1.3. If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the Platform. If you already have an account, you can delete it at any time, as described in Section 10.
1.4. How we process your personal data is described in the Privacy Notice, available at shadow.study/privacy, which we recommend reading together with these Terms.
2. The service
2.1. Shadow Study is a study platform where you import practice exams created with the artificial intelligence app you already use, such as ChatGPT or Claude, practice in exam mode or study mode, and follow your performance in History and on the Dashboard.
2.2. You can create exams by connecting your artificial intelligence app to your account, by using a reusable setup in the app itself, or by copying and pasting our prompts into any conversation. In the last two ways, Shadow Study does not send any information to the artificial intelligence app.
2.3. The Platform is in an early launch phase, and its features may be added, changed, or discontinued to improve the service. When a change significantly affects how you use the Platform, we will notify you reasonably in advance, through the Platform itself or by the registered email.
2.4. We use our best efforts to keep the Platform available and working. Even so, interruptions may occur for maintenance, to fix faults, or because of factors beyond our control, such as failures of the internet network, the power supply, or third-party services the Platform depends on. Scheduled maintenance will be carried out, whenever possible, at times of lower use, and emergency maintenance, aimed at fixing critical or security faults, may take place at any time.
2.5. We recommend that you keep a copy of the exams you consider important and that you periodically export your results from History.
3. Account and access
3.1. The Platform is intended for people over 18. When you create or activate your account, you declare that you are 18 or older and have full legal capacity. If we identify an account belonging to a person under 18, we may suspend it and delete the corresponding data, as described in Section 10 of the Privacy Notice.
3.2. In this phase, accounts are created by invitation, and the invitation may set an access period, with a start and an end date, which will be communicated to you. When that period ends, access to the study features may be interrupted.
3.3. You access your account with an email and password or with a code sent to your email. You must provide a valid email address under your control and keep it up to date.
3.4. Your access credentials are personal and non-transferable. Keep your password secret and, if you suspect unauthorized use of your account, change the password, end the sessions on all devices from your Profile, and let us know at contato@shadow.study.
3.5. You are responsible for the activities carried out in your account, except when they result from a security failure attributable to us.
4. Content you import
4.1. We call “Content” the exams, questions, alternatives, explanations, and other materials you import into the Platform, as well as the answers and notes you record on it. You keep all the rights you have over your Content, and these Terms do not transfer its ownership to us.
4.2. By importing Content, you declare that you have the right to use it for your studies. If the Content comes from third-party materials, such as classes, course handouts, books, or past exams, it is up to you to respect the copyright and terms of use of those sources.
4.3. So that we can provide the service, you grant us a free, non-exclusive, and limited license to store, reproduce, process, and display your Content to you, generate your history and your dashboard statistics, keep backups, and transmit the Content to the artificial intelligence apps you connect, when you request it. This license applies only to these purposes and ends when the Content or the account is deleted, subject to the backup replacement period described in the Privacy Notice. If we intend to use the Content for other purposes, we will update these Terms and inform you before starting that use.
4.4. The Platform is not intended for storing other people’s personal data. Do not include in your Content information that identifies third parties and, in particular, real patient data, such as names, initials, medical record numbers, dates of care, places, or combinations of details that would allow someone to be identified. Clinical cases must be fictitious or have identifying information removed.
4.5. You are responsible for the Content you import. We may remove Content that goes against these Terms or that is the subject of a well-founded complaint of infringement of third-party rights and, whenever possible, we will notify you and state the reason.
5. Connections with artificial intelligence apps
5.1. Connecting your account to an artificial intelligence app, such as ChatGPT or Claude, is optional and is done through the authorization shown in the app itself, which states the permissions granted. Once connected, the app can save exams to your account and, if result sharing is on, read the results of your completed attempts, including those of archived exams.
5.2. Result sharing is turned on when you connect an app, and you can turn it off in your Profile, for all connections at once. Turning sharing off prevents new reads, but does not remove results already sent to a conversation.
5.3. You can undo the connection at any time, from your Profile or from the artificial intelligence app itself.
5.4. Artificial intelligence apps are services provided by third parties, with their own terms of use and privacy policies. What happens in your conversations, including with the exams and results sent to them, is governed by the app provider’s rules and the relationship you have with it, and is not under our control.
6. Content generated by artificial intelligence and limits of the service
6.1. Exams are created by you with the help of third-party artificial intelligence tools and, for this reason, may contain errors, inaccuracies, outdated information, or incorrect answer keys. We do not write or review the content of the exams and do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness.
6.2. The Platform is a study support tool and does not replace official materials, exam notices, or the guidance of teachers, nor, in the case of health content, clinical protocols, guidelines, and professional guidance. We recommend checking important information against reliable sources.
6.3. We do not guarantee that you will pass any test, public-service examination, selection process, or exam, nor that you will obtain any score. The Dashboard statistics reflect only the performance recorded in your attempts within the Platform.
7. Prohibited uses and suspension
7.1. When using the Platform, you may not:
a) use it for unlawful or fraudulent purposes;
b) import Content that infringes third-party rights, including copyright, or that contains personal data of third parties or real patient data;
c) import Content that is discriminatory or defamatory, or that promotes harassment, hate speech, or violence;
d) insert malicious code, attempt to access accounts, data, or areas of the Platform without authorization, or circumvent its security mechanisms and usage limits;
e) use robots, scripts, or other automated means that overload the infrastructure or interfere with the operation of the Platform;
f) copy, modify, decompile, or reverse engineer the Platform, except within the limits authorized by law or by an applicable open-source license;
g) share your credentials or allow another person to use your account; and
h) resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit access to the Platform.
7.2. If these Terms are violated, we may remove Content, limit features, or suspend or terminate your account, in proportion to the seriousness of the violation. Except in urgent situations, such as a risk to the security of the Platform or of third parties or compliance with a legal order, we will notify you by email before suspension or termination, stating the reason and giving you the opportunity to respond.
8. Intellectual property
8.1. The Platform, the Shadow Study name and brand, the logo, the domain, the interface, the design, the texts, the prompts and setups we provide for creating exams, and the software behind the Platform belong to Shadow Study or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property law.
8.2. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, and non-transferable license to access the Platform and use the prompts and setups we provide, solely for your studies, while your account is active and you comply with these Terms.
8.3. These Terms do not transfer to you any other intellectual property right and do not change the open-source licenses applicable to components or versions of the software that have been published under those licenses.
8.4. If you send us suggestions or comments about the Platform, we may use them to improve it, without this creating any obligation to pay you.
9. Subscription
9.1. In this phase, access to the Platform is by invitation and there is no charge. Shadow Study will be offered through a paid subscription, and the subscription terms, such as price, payment method, renewal, cancellation, and the right of withdrawal, will be published and communicated to you before any charge begins. No charge will be made unless you expressly subscribe.
10. Account deletion and discontinuation of the service
10.1. You can delete your account at any time from your Profile. Deletion permanently erases the account, the exams, the attempts, and the scores, and cannot be undone, which is why we recommend exporting your results from History before deleting it.
10.2. Some records may be kept after deletion, for the periods and purposes described in Section 5 of the Privacy Notice, and deleted data may remain for a short period in backups, until they are replaced. Deletion also does not reach exams and results already sent to conversations with artificial intelligence apps, which follow the app provider’s rules.
10.3. If we decide to discontinue the Platform, we will notify you reasonably in advance, by the registered email, and will keep the export of your results available during that period.
11. General provisions
11.1. We may change these Terms to reflect changes in the Platform, in the law, or in our practices. When the changes are relevant, we will inform you reasonably in advance, through the Platform or by the registered email, and may ask for a new acceptance the next time you sign in. Using the Platform after the new version takes effect means you accept the new conditions, and, if you do not agree with them, you may delete your account.
11.2. Communications related to these Terms will be sent to the email registered to your account, and it is up to you to keep it up to date.
11.3. We may transfer the rights and obligations arising from these Terms, including to a legal entity that comes to operate Shadow Study or in the event of a reorganization, merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with prior notice by the registered email. You may not transfer your rights and obligations without our prior agreement.
11.4. Tolerating a breach of any provision of these Terms does not mean waiving the right to enforce it later.
11.5. If any provision of these Terms is held void or unenforceable, the others will remain valid.
11.6. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
11.7. The courts of the District of Santa Cruz do Sul, State of Rio Grande do Sul, are chosen to settle any matters arising from these Terms.
11.8. For questions about these Terms, write to contato@shadow.study. Information about support and account deletion is also available at shadow.study/support.
